Nine prominent musicians exploring the music nft landscape
There have been several prominent musicians who have released music non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in recent years. Some examples include:
DJ 3LAU: DJ 3LAU (pronounced "blau") is a well-known electronic dance music (EDM) artist who has been an early adopter of NFTs. In 2021, he released an album as an NFT, which sold out in less than an hour. He is also the co-founder of the platform Royal, which has helped musicians such as the Chainsmokers release their fractionalized royalty NFTs.
Kings of Leon: The popular rock band Kings of Leon released an NFT collection in 2021, which included exclusive audio and video content as well as physical items such as Digital album downloads and a Limited edition NFT Golden Eye Vinyl.Â
Linkin Park: Mike Shinoda from the famous rock band Linkin Park released an NFT collection entitled Ziggurats in 2022, which included generative music and art.Â
Madonna: Pop icon Madonna released an NFT collection in 2022, controversially featuring her giving birth to a tree.Â
Gorillaz: The virtual band Gorillaz released an NFT collection in 2021 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of their self-titled album, Gorillaz.Â
The Weeknd: Pop artist The Weeknd released an NFT collection in 2021, which included an open mint of an upcoming track featuring one of three different visual works.Â
Imagine Dragons: The popular rock band Imagine Dragons released an NFT collection in 2022 on the Solana blockchain, collaborating with the brand Pop Guy.
Aphex Twin: Electronic musician Aphex Twin released an NFT collection in 2021, which used a portion of the proceeds to plant trees and donate to permaculture projects.
The Chainsmokers: The electronic music duo, The Chainsmokers, released an NFT collection in 2022, which included 1% of the streaming royalties going towards fans, among other exclusive perks.Â
This list is by no means exhaustive, and there have been many other musicians and bands who have released NFT collections.
With the growing popularity of NFTs in the music industry, we will likely see even more artists releasing NFTs in the future as a part of their strategy of connecting with fans.Â
